Developing countries like Pakistan are ill equipped to counter natural disasters, relying instead on the expertise of foreign donors & personnel to tackle rescue & relief operations and the all important reconstruction effort. The 2005 South Asian Earthquake destroyed the fragile infrastructure in Azad Kashmir creating thousands of widows & orphans.
UPFBH with offices in Pakistan rushed to the aid of the traumatized survivors initially providing, Tents, Blankets, Food and Non-food items. Once the basic needs for the existence of the survivors were taken care of, UPFBH focused on their priority of the reconstruction of permanent houses, for the vulnerable group (comprising of widows and orphans and extended families with no regular source of income).
UPFBH signed the MOU with ERRA (Earthquake Rehabilitation & Reconstruction Authority) Prime Minister’s Secretariat Public, Islamabad, Government of Pakistan, for the construction of a village in Muzaffarabad (AJK) Pakistan.
Further a Partnership between UPFBH and Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Humanitarian & Charity Est., was signed to construct the village consisting of, 57 Houses, Mosque, Ablution area, Imam room, Library, Water supply scheme, Water tank and Graveyard for the survivors of the South Asian Earthquake as there were a great number of displaced, who were living in makeshift tents all over the affected region.
While UPFBH provided the technical & logistic support by mobilizing its engineering and construction crew to build the project, Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Humanitarian & Charity Est., awarded UPFBH with the grant of US Dollar 1.36 Million (5 Million Dirham), for the construction of the village. |
